Considering dogs have different personalities, much as we do, Lost Creek Retrievers will mold our program to best fit each different style of dog. We quickly determine each dog's strengths and weaknesses, and in training will challenge and polish the strengths while using clear cut concepts, attrition and success to bring the weak points up to standard. All Retrievers are worked in water, through decoys, from blinds, platforms, boats, and in a wide variety of field situations with various terrain challenges. Essential for producing a retriever for hunting and/or hunt test competition, our ponds are built for training with points and islands.

The following training options are a general guideline to our training programs. Only after we evaluate the retriever and have a full understanding of the owner's expectations, can we develop a program to meet those expectations.

Puppy Training
We have a large number of our clients who live in urban settings with limited time to spend with their puppy. For those clients we have developed this program for puppies 4-6 months old. This program introduces retrievers to the tools of their trade; gunfire, birds, pits, four wheelers, boats, duck calls as well as travel.

Basic Retriever Training
With a four-month commitment these dogs are obedient, steady to shot, doing singles and easy doubles. These dogs are introduced to hunting blinds, dog stands, boats, decoys and gunfire.

Intermediate Retriever Training
In addition to the Basic Retriever Training this requires an additional three months, which we use to introduce basic handling as well as increasing the dogs ability to mark.

Advanced Retriever Training
In addition to the completion of the first two programs this program gives the owner a finished retriever. Typically these dogs will do triples, diversions, blinds and honor other dogs.

Hunt Test
Currently we participate in UKC and AKC hunt test. We encourage all of our clients to consider participating in these hunt test programs. Our clients are responsible for the hunt test fee as well as our handling fee for each test.

One on One Session with Owner
After completing the training, we will schedule a time to demonstrate and teach the owner how to maintain his/her retrievers training. We will go through obedience, the use of the whistle and handling the dog on marks and blinds.
